0-1 MVP design & branding for a potential new start-up

The Process

Below on the left are the designs the team gave me to communicate the idea (bless them, they tried) and screen shots of a rudimentary app they already started building. As far as aesthetics go, I had permission to do whatever I wanted! I was pretty excited for them to see what I could turn their app into. I started as I always do with some market research, checking out FitBod, Sweat by Kayla Itstines, Apple Fitness and some inspirational designs from Figma community and Dribbble.

Wireframes

My stakeholders wanted the minimum amount of screens so they could get the idea out for friends to test. I added extra features that I knew could elevate the app that they can hopefully integrate in future versions.

Colour &

Branding

After hours of scouring colour palettes and inspirational fitness brands I landed on this palette. I wanted the app to look a little more masculine, bold lettering and bright, punchy accents reminiscent of activewear. I usually collect a bunch of colours I think could work, and then start playing with them on the components to help guide the final palette. I played with a dark and a light colour way, choosing the dark look to design the rest of the screens.

If the team decide this is an app worth investing more time and money into, I intend to flush out a full light mode set of components and screens. I was really drawn to these ‘glowing’ buttons I saw on Dribbble, and wanted to have a go, which lead me to creating the glowing dumbell for the logo. This logo is more of a placeholder for the time being. I intend to iterate much more if this project continues.

I had so much fun creating this quick and scrappy project. Wishing the team luck and looking forward to expanding the product!
